Finding laptops for under 300 dollars can be quite a challenge. In fact, you may night find any new laptops under $300. You will probably come out with an assortment of netbooks under $300, used laptops, and smart gadgets.

Don't rule those out, though. A few months back, I bought my first netbook. I am a freelance writer and needed something for when I was at the beach with my kids for the day. I wasn't looking for much and found a decent netbook for $230. About a week ago, the sound drivers on our home PC crapped out. Since then, we have been using the netbook as our home PC and quite happily. We even watch movies on it. It is more than we expected, especially for the price. So, here are the laptops $300 and under that I found.

*Over time, prices do change. I will try to keep this updated with new laptops, and you may find some of the older laptops drift above 300 dollars. If some prices are way above $300, it is probably because there are used laptops available for $300 or less.

7'' EPC Netbook wifi Black
Amazon Price: $114.99
List Price: $199.99

I wanted to get a mini netbook in this quest and this was the best I could find. It is small and not very powerful, so you should not expect much. Also, the operating system does not allow a lot of variations. There will be little that you can do to adapt it to your needs, so unless your are very minimal, this will not do.

However, I wanted to include it because I think this is the wave of the future. Engineers are fitting more technology into smaller spaces and this size will soon be very common place. Hopefully they can work out the kinks in the design, because mini netbooks have a lot of promise. This is also wifi compatible, but it will only pick up the strongest signals. As I said, it is not very powerful.

Samsung 10.2" Netbook

Anyone serious about getting laptops under $300 would be foolish to not consider this one carefully. It has a versatile Windows 7 operating system. The battery lasts between 6-8 hours, unless you are watching movies straight one after the other, in which case you can expect to need a recharge much sooner. There is not much this netbook cannot do. The screen is smaller than a laptop, 10.2" as opposed to 17" for a typical laptop. You can upgrade the memory very easily if you need to. It will also allow for plenty of add-ons. i use a collection of USB thumb drives with my netbook so as not to slow down the system with my files. Something like that is always a good idea when your memory is limited.

Android Tablet

The Android Tablet is one that I threw in here for fun. I kind of have a crush on all things Android, and I don't think I'm alone on that. I think this tablet has a lot of promise, and to the hardcore droid-heads, it will work beautifully. If you want to figure out the ins and outs of this tablet, this may be for you, but it is not ready for a casual user yet. It does not properly interface with the android market, your PC or smartphone. Some have found hacks around it, but the average user is not looking for that. I am hoping for a day that Android operating systems overtake Apple, and maybe even someday windows. I think that they are that promising. If you have the same dream and want your money to support that effort, but this, play with it, and encourage Android to continue. If you are not such a droid-head, the next one might be for you.

Asus Eee - Refurbished

Asus has made a real name for itself as far as inexpensive netbooks go. They get generally good reviews and can pack a lot of bag for your buck, but that is not why I included this one. I think that refurbished and used laptops have a place on the laptop market. Make sure that there a is a decent warranty with whatever laptops computers for under $300 that you are looking for. After that obstacle, you can find some truly amazing deals in the used and refurbished market. This is the netbook I got, by the way!

Dell D600 Laptop 1.6ghz 40gb DVD/CDRW

I couldn't find information about the size, which is kind of critical in my mind. However, given the specs, this is a laptop, not a netbook. A netbook is anything under 11" in screeen size, where a laptop is anything above 12" screeen. I would call this Dell a hit or miss business deal. Some people are getting great laptops for under $230, and other people are getting ripped off. Still, I think that getting a used laptop is a great idea for many people. If you are new to computers, it will just be a huge frustration and you will be better off getting a new laptop for a little bit more, or a decent capacity netbook.

Toshiba Mini With 6 Cell battery

Toshiba Mini NB255-N245 10.1-Inch Netbook (Black Oynx)
Amazon Price: $299.99

Toshiba Mini Laptop

This is a fairly standard netbook, loaded with Windows 7. What makes this a remarkable computer for the price is definitely the battery. A 6-cell battery in a computer this size can easily provide you of eight hours of work time. Most netbooks come with a 3 cell battery, which will give you about half that time. Upgrading from a 3 cell to a 6 cell after you purchase a laptop can cost quite a bit, so getting one beforehand will be a huge advantage.

Refurbished Dell Laptop

14" Dell Laptop

This is a great 14" laptop that is available. A 14" screen is a great size for a laptop within this price range. It will be an older laptop. The technology will be a few years old. One review said it was from 2005. This will mean that the processor will be a little more dated. As far as the rest of the innards, this will be like a very high end new netbook. The screen size and keyboard size is what will make it a huge upgrade over a new netbook.

10.1" Acer Netbook

This is one of the higher ranking netbooks around. This is another with a 6 cell battery, that promises and 8 hour life. What is remarkable, though, about this particular netbook, is that it comes in many colors. most laptops are black or silver, and sometimes you'll find blue. But this also comes in red and purple, which is a lot of fun.

Disney Princess Pink 8.9" Laptop

These pink laptops under 300 are really small. An 8.9 inch screen size is small even for a netbook. However, this would be a super cute gift for a little girl. A child would find the keyboard to be a fine size, but it would not work well for an adult. My biggest pet peeve with this laptop is that the screen size is smaller than it needs to be. There is a large border around the screen that could have easily been used to provides a larger screen. For those looking for childrens laptops under $300 for kids, this will do fine.

Good information, I found your hub about laptops through the Google search engine (first page of Google). I also have a Hubpages account as you can see. Thanks
